They must employ critical and analytical thinking to evaluate challenges and develop practical, creative solutions to issues related to climate change and environmental degradation. A key skill is the ability to locate, assess, and synthesize reliable information sources on sustainability to inform decisions and actions. Clear communication of sustainability concepts, both verbally and in writing, to various audiences is essential, as is the proficient use of digital technologies to collect data and present findings. Adaptability and reflective learning are also central, including an understanding of second-order learning, which involves not just acquiring knowledge but transforming how one learns and thinks. Professionals must also grasp the global dimensions of sustainability and the interconnections between global and local challenges, applying international best practices in diverse settings. Cultural awareness is critical; this includes respecting Indigenous perspectives, acknowledging the complexities of multicultural societies, and analyzing how cultural norms can influence sustainable outcomes.
