Year 1 of the Bachelor of Health Promotion provides a foundational understanding of professional health practice, public health principles, and the social and cultural determinants of health. In Semester 1, students complete units covering the fundamentals of professional health practice, an introduction to public health, health and wellbeing in social and cultural contexts, and health promotion principles and values. These units establish the knowledge and skills required to understand health promotion within diverse populations. Semester 2 builds on this foundation with a focus on Indigenous cultures and health behaviours, biostatistics and epidemiology, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases, introducing students to practical and evidence-based approaches in health promotion.In Year 2, the course emphasizes the development of practical skills for planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion initiatives. Semester 1 includes units on health promotion equity and social justice, health promotion methods, and foundations of health promotion planning and evaluation, equipping students to design and deliver interventions that address community needs. Semester 2 further develops these skills through units on applied health promotion in action, epidemiology from principles to practice, promoting mental health and social inclusion, and health promotion, media, and advocacy. These units integrate theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, preparing students to work effectively in a range of public health contexts.Year 3 focuses on professional practice, leadership, and advanced application of health promotion. Semester 1 includes professional practice in public health, applied health promotion planning and evaluation, health promotion in challenging contexts, and applied research and biostatistics, providing opportunities to consolidate knowledge and gain practical experience. Semester 2 covers health partnerships, politics and power, health promotion leadership and identity, applied public health practice, and global public and planetary health, emphasizing leadership, ethical decision-making, and addressing complex health challenges. Throughout the course, students develop critical thinking, practical skills, and evidence-informed approaches to health promotion, preparing them for careers in public health and related fields.
