Course Curriculum

Discover how each program is uniquely designed to inspire learning

The course structure is designed to provide students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in the first year, followed by increasing specialisation and flexibility in later years. In Year 1, students begin by developing core knowledge and skills that support global awareness, cultural understanding, and sustainability. Semester 1 introduces Sustainability Communication and Action, encouraging students to understand and respond to contemporary environmental and social challenges. In Semester 2, students study Culture to Cultures, which builds intercultural understanding and communication skills. Alongside these core units, students complete a broad selection of option units drawn from disciplines such as anthropology, languages, creative writing, geography, history, international relations, journalism, digital media, theatre, fine arts, and professional writing. This flexible choice allows students to explore different fields of interest while building essential academic and analytical skills. Students also complete elective units to further tailor their learning experience. In Year 2, students move into more focused study by completing 200 credit points in a chosen Arts major, such as anthropology and sociology, creative writing, geography, history, Indigenous Australian culture, international relations, journalism, languages, digital and social media, or professional writing and publishing. Alternatively, students may choose a second major from Arts or another faculty, including business, economics, finance, management, fine arts, screen arts, theatre, tourism, or hospitality. This structure supports both single-major pathways with additional depth and double-major pathways that promote interdisciplinary learning. In Year 3, the course content varies depending on earlier selections. Students either complete a single Arts major alongside a second major from Arts or another faculty, or they expand their primary major through specialisations and electives. Some majors recommend or require specific first-year units to ensure appropriate academic preparation. Overall, the course structure offers flexibility, breadth, and depth, enabling students to customise their studies while developing strong disciplinary knowledge, transferable skills, and cultural awareness aligned with diverse career pathways or further study.
