Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Design (Fashion & Sustainability) is a comprehensive three-year program designed to develop creative, technical, and business skills with a strong focus on sustainable fashion. In the first year, students begin their journey by exploring core design principles through Fashion Design: Function and Reinvention, supported by foundational design process units. They study materials and construction techniques in units like Fibres, Fabrics and Fabrications and Fashion Resourcing and Remaking. Industry knowledge is introduced through Sustainable Fashion Business and the History of Fashion Systems, while Creative Foundations and Industry Foundations help build creative thinking and professional awareness.In the second year, students delve deeper into the cultural and historical context of fashion with units like Fashion Design: Heritage and Fashion Design Futures. They explore advanced construction methods including Bespoke, Couture and Slow Making, and Zero Waste Techniques. Business strategy and ethical leadership become central themes through Business Strategy and Design Thinking and Ethical Business Management. This year also introduces opportunities for customisation with elective options and specialized units such as Communications and Marketing.In the final year, the focus shifts to independent research, entrepreneurship, and real-world application. Students complete a major body of work through the Fashion Design: Capstone Project and Design Realisation. Alongside this, they continue refining their material knowledge and business understanding with units like Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Business & Entrepreneurship: Capstone. Career preparation is supported through the Career Development unit and an Industry Placement, giving students hands-on experience and industry connections. By the end of the course, graduates emerge with a diverse portfolio, practical experience, and a thorough understanding of sustainable fashion practices, ready to innovate and contribute meaningfully to a changing global industry.
