The Bachelor of Interior Design is structured over three years and delivered across three trimesters each year, offering a balance of theory, practical application, creative development, and industry engagement. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through subjects such as Design Theory (IDDT1), Creative Theory (IDDT2), and Design Movements. Practical skills are developed through units like Design Drawing (IDPA1), Colour Exploration (INDDID2), Material Exploration, and Digital Drawing. Students also begin to understand design communication through INDDED1 and start integrating digital tools in IDIA2 Digital Integration. Creative Foundations (CRFCRFS) runs throughout, supporting conceptual growth and visual experimentation. The second year deepens this learning with advanced theory subjects such as Design Theory (IDDT3), Regional Design Culture (IDDT4), and Design for Environments. Practical knowledge is further refined through Systems & Assembly (IDPA4), Design Studios, and an introduction to CAD software through CAD 1 and CAD 2. Design Entrepreneurship (IA4) and Global Industry & Careers help students understand business contexts and future opportunities. The third year focuses on real-world readiness and design for impact. Theoretical units such as Design for Experience (IDDT6) and Design for Humanity highlight ethical and human-centred design thinking. Students complete advanced studios (IDPA5, IDPA6), develop professional communication skills in CAD 3 and Emerging Technologies, and build a career-ready portfolio in Portfolio Development (FASIPLS). A major highlight of the final year is Industry Placement, giving students practical exposure and the chance to apply their learning in real settings. Throughout the degree, Creative Foundations and Integration units (IDIA3, IDIA5) continue to encourage innovative thinking and interdisciplinary exploration. By graduation, students have developed a comprehensive understanding of interior design across theory, technology, sustainability, and industry practice, equipping them with the confidence and skills to enter the profession and make a positive impact.
