Course Curriculum

The Master of Project Management at Charles Sturt University is a 96-credit point program designed to prepare professionals to lead complex projects across various industries. The course consists of 64 credit points of core subjects and 32 credit points of restricted electives, allowing students to build both foundational and specialised knowledge in project management. Core subjects include essential areas such as human resource management, contemporary management, project management fundamentals, leadership, strategic planning, and professional communication. The capstone subject, "Strategy and Planning" (MGT510), must be completed in the final session and is designed to integrate all key learnings, equipping students with strategic decision-making and leadership capabilities.Students also choose 32 credit points from a wide range of electives divided into two groups. Group A offers business-focused subjects such as corporate finance, conflict resolution, negotiation skills, marketing for managers, and facilitating organisational change. Group B electives focus more on IT and technical project management, including agile methodologies, cyber security management, IT governance, program and portfolio management, and business analysis. Students seeking practical industry exposure can also choose the professional internship elective to gain real-world experience.This program is designed for working professionals from diverse backgrounds and supports career progression into project management roles across sectors like IT, business, construction, and government. It also serves as preparation for professional certifications, such as those offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI)®. Delivered in collaboration with IT Masters, the course offers six intake sessions per year—January, March, May, July, August, and November—providing flexibility to start at a convenient time. As part of an articulated program, students can also choose to begin with a Graduate Certificate and progress to the full master’s degree. With its balance of theory, practice, and flexibility, this course provides a strong foundation for leadership in project-based work environments.
