Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Information Technology at Charles Sturt University consists of 152 credit points, including core subjects, a restricted elective, a major, and electives or a minor. The core subjects total 86 credit points and cover fundamental IT topics such as programming principles, database systems, computer systems, systems analysis and design, internet technologies, project management, network forensics, and professional practice. Additionally, students complete workplace learning activities and can undertake a work placement, depending on satisfactory academic progress.Students choose one major from four specialisations, each comprising 64 credit points. The Cyber Security major focuses on identifying and defending against cyber-attacks and educating users on security best practices. This field is one of the fastest-growing industries worldwide, offering skills to work at its forefront. The Network Engineering major introduces fundamental networking concepts and advances to routing, switching, virtualization, network security, and IT infrastructure management, preparing students for careers in designing and managing computer networks.The Software and Application Development major is tailored for those interested in programming and developing software and mobile applications. It covers basic to advanced programming skills to produce quality software solutions. The Web Development major teaches web page design, programming, and usability principles to create effective websites and e-commerce systems, enabling businesses to stay competitive in the digital marketplace.Students also select a restricted elective from specialized IT or data analysis subjects and can choose either five unrestricted electives or a minor sequence of 32 credit points in areas such as Cyber Security, Entrepreneurship, Management and Leadership, or Psychology. The course offers flexible study options and practical learning opportunities, including work integrated learning and placements, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the diverse demands of the IT industry.
