The Master of Dietetics requires students to successfully complete 160 credit points, comprising both core and research units that develop advanced knowledge and professional skills in dietetic practice. The program includes 11 core units worth 140 credit points and one research unit valued at 20 credit points. Core units provide a comprehensive foundation in key areas such as medical nutrition therapy, food systems management, nutrition across the lifecycle, and public health nutrition. Students will study DET501 and DET502, which cover the principles and practice of medical nutrition therapy, and DET503 and DET504, focusing on food systems management and nutrition counselling, respectively. Additional units such as NUT502, NUT504, and NUT505 enhance understanding of nutrition across different population groups, the relationship between food, society, and the environment, and public health nutrition initiatives. The research component, NUT602 Nutrition Research Project, develops critical skills in scientific inquiry, data analysis, and evidence-based practice, preparing students to contribute to research and policy development in the nutrition field. Professional skill-building is emphasised through DET601 Dietetic Professional Skills, which provides 20 credit points and prepares students for real-world practice. Students then complete two major placement units, DET602 and DET603, each worth 20 credit points, offering supervised professional experience in diverse healthcare and community settings. These placements integrate academic learning with hands-on practice, ensuring graduates are ready to meet the professional standards required for accreditation and employment. Throughout the course, students are supported in developing communication, research, and leadership abilities essential for effective dietetic practice. Upon completion, graduates are equipped with the expertise to work as dietitians across clinical, community, and public health settings, contributing to improved nutritional health outcomes and advancing the profession of dietetics.
