The Master of Applied Spatial Science at Charles Darwin University provides a comprehensive program that equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to solve real-world problems using spatial science technologies. The course offers flexible delivery options, including online units, face-to-face tutorials, and the ability to study entirely online for those balancing work, life, and family commitments, alongside access to scholarships to support study. Students must complete 160 credit points, consisting of 60 credit points of Core Units, 60 credit points of Specialist Electives, and 40 credit points of Research Units, with specialist elective selections to be made in consultation with the Course Coordinator. Core Units provide a strong foundation in spatial science, including Software Now, Remote Sensing, Environmental Monitoring and Modelling, Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Thinking, Real-World Statistics and Data Reasoning, and Applied Spatial Analysis for Real-World Problems. Specialist Electives allow students to tailor their learning to their professional or research interests, drawing from areas such as Research Methodology, Environmental Science, Humanitarian Aid, Emergency and Disaster Management, Health, Information Technology, Civil and Structural Engineering, Business and Project Management, and Indigenous Knowledges. Research Units focus on developing advanced research skills through the completion of a Research Proposal and Research Thesis, replacing the previous Research Project structure. The course emphasizes applied, hands-on learning with opportunities to work with field equipment such as GPS units, UAVs, LiDAR, and spectroradiometers, while also developing transferable skills in collaboration, scientific writing, reporting, and presentation. This program prepares graduates for careers across environmental management, disaster response, health, IT, engineering, and Indigenous knowledge sectors, equipping them to apply spatial science in local, regional, and global contexts. With flexible study modes, practical and theoretical training, and strong professional engagement, the Master of Applied Spatial Science offers a pathway to advanced careers, research opportunities, and further postgraduate study.
