The Graduate Diploma of Public Health is an 80-credit-point postgraduate program that provides students with the essential knowledge and skills to address complex public health issues across diverse populations. The course structure includes four compulsory core units totaling 40 credit points and four specialist elective units totaling 40 credit points, offering both a solid foundation in public health theory and the flexibility to tailor studies to specific interests and career goals. The core units—Indigenous Health, Epidemiology, Public Health, and Qualitative Research—equip students with a strong understanding of population health principles, research methodologies, and culturally informed health practices. These units focus on developing advanced analytical skills in interpreting health data, evaluating health interventions, and designing evidence-based strategies to improve community health outcomes.Students then select four specialist electives from a wide range of streams that reflect major areas of public health practice. Options include Public Health Practice, Indigenous Health, and Global Health. The Public Health Practice stream offers units such as Research Design, Health Systems and Planning, Health Policy, and Biostatistics, which focus on policy development, research ethics, and system-level planning. The Indigenous Health stream includes subjects like Public Health Anthropology, Health Promotion, and Indigenous Health Research, emphasizing community engagement and culturally responsive health approaches. The Global Health stream covers key international topics such as Chronic Conditions Control, Communicable Disease Management, Global Health, and Tropical Child and Adolescent Health.Students planning to articulate to the Master of Public Health with a research component are required to complete Health Policy as part of their elective selection to meet the core requirements of both programs. Delivered and coordinated by the Menzies School of Health Research, this program combines academic rigor with practical relevance, preparing graduates for careers in public health policy, health research, epidemiology, and global health initiatives.
