The Master of Pharmacy is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for professional practice in the pharmacy field, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical application. To successfully complete the course, a candidate must earn a total of 240 credit points, with all units valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise stated. The program consists entirely of core units that provide a strong foundation in pharmaceutical science, patient care, and professional practice. The course structure includes 14 compulsory units totaling 240 credit points. These core units cover essential topics such as business and management within the healthcare context through BUS509 Allied Health Business and Management, and fundamental pharmacy concepts through PHA501 Introduction to Pharmacy. Advanced clinical training is delivered through a series of Applied Pharmacotherapy in Patient Care units (PHA502, PHA503, PHA504, and PHA505), each focusing on practical, patient-centered pharmacotherapy and contributing to a total of 120 credit points.Students also gain an understanding of the science behind medicines through units such as PHA506 How Medicines Work: Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, PHA507 How Medicines Work: Medicinal Chemistry, and PHA508 How Medicines Work: Drug Design, Formulation and Compounding. Research and quality use of medicines are emphasized in PHA509 Quality Use of Medicines and PHA510 Quality Use of Medicines Research Project, which includes a 20-credit-point research component. Additionally, students complete HEA527 Research Skills for Health Professionals and HEA528 Diversity and Inclusion in Healthcare, both of which were introduced to replace earlier versions of similar units in 2024.The program also includes practical experiences such as simulation blocks and clinical placements, allowing students to apply their learning in real-world healthcare environments. The final unit, PHA601 Integrated Case Management, helps students synthesize their knowledge across all areas of study. Through this well-rounded and rigorous curriculum, the course ensures graduates are fully equipped for diverse and evolving roles in the pharmacy profession.
