Course Curriculum

The Diploma of Information Technology offers students a comprehensive introduction to the core areas of computing, communication, and data science, preparing them for further study or entry-level roles in the information technology sector. This course focuses on developing essential academic and technical skills, ensuring that students are equipped to adapt to the evolving demands of the IT industry. Over two semesters, students complete eight units totalling 80 credit points, with each unit providing six contact hours per week across a 12-week teaching semester. The program combines theoretical learning with practical application, helping students strengthen their knowledge of software, operating systems, data management, and communication within professional and academic contexts.Core units such as Computing Fundamentals, Software Now, Operating Systems and Applications, and Foundations of Data Science build a strong foundation in IT principles and digital literacy. Additional subjects like Business and Professional Communications, Language, Literacy and Sustainability, and Cultural Capabilities ensure students gain the communication and cultural awareness skills necessary to work effectively in diverse environments. The inclusion of a specialist elective, chosen from business-focused units such as Introduction to Management, Fundamentals of Marketing, or Introduction to Accounting, allows students to tailor their studies to align with specific career interests or academic pathways.Students are encouraged to stay informed about course updates and transitional arrangements, as re-enrolling students may benefit from transferring to newer course versions to access improved content and learning outcomes.
