Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Social Work is a 320-credit-point, four-year professional degree accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers, preparing graduates for ethical, culturally safe practice across diverse settings. Students must complete 26 core units totalling 300 credit points and 2 elective units worth 20 credit points. All units are 10 credit points unless specified, with two field education placements (SWK230 and SWK470) each valued at 30 credit points.Core units span foundational and advanced social work practice, integrating First Nations health perspectives, psychology, sociology, policy, research, and legal frameworks. Four skills-based units—SWK103, SWK203, SWK302, and SWK402—each require a compulsory five-day intensive block, totalling 20 days of mandatory face-to-face learning prior to placements, meeting AASW accreditation standards.Two supervised placements—SWK230 Field Education A and SWK470 Field Education B—provide 1,000 hours of practical experience under qualified supervision. Electives (20 cp) are selected from any undergraduate offerings, allowing personal or professional specialization. Course rules limit 100-level units to 120 credit points and mandate at least 80 credit points at 300-level or above, ensuring progressive skill development. The program equips graduates with evidence-based, reflective practice to promote social justice and support vulnerable populations.
