Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) requires the successful completion of 80 credit points, with all units valued at 10 credit points each unless otherwise specified. The course structure consists of one compulsory core unit, six research units, and one specialist elective. The core unit, SID403 Research Skills, provides essential training in research design and academic methodologies, forming the foundation for the honours research project. Students then complete six research units from the Honours Thesis sequence, including SCI701 through SCI706, which guide them progressively through the development, execution, and presentation of an independent research project. Some advanced thesis units require prerequisite completion of earlier ones, ensuring that research skills are built systematically.In addition to the core and research units, students must complete one specialist elective worth 10 credit points at the 400 or 500 level. Options include ENV511 Real-World Statistics and Data Reasoning or another approved research preparation unit, which supports the student’s chosen field of study and enhances their analytical capabilities.From 2025, the course underwent structural updates, replacing earlier research units SCI711–SCI713 with the new six-part Honours Thesis units (SCI701–SCI706), providing greater flexibility for students. The Information Technology and Health and Clinical Sciences specialisations were removed from the elective options, and several associated units, such as PHM519 Clinical Trials and PSY416 Ethics and Professional Issues, are no longer offered. Transitional arrangements ensure that students who began their studies before 2025 receive credit for previously completed units.These revisions aim to streamline the program, promote research depth, and align with updated academic standards. Students who completed the previous versions of the research or elective units will have them recognised toward their degree, and those affected by the changes are encouraged to consult the course coordinator for guidance.
