Course Curriculum

The Diploma of Music is made up of eight core units that provide a balanced foundation in music performance, theory, analysis, and production. The course begins with Language of Modern Music 1 (MUSC11405), which introduces the fundamentals of musical language, theory, and notation. Alongside this, Music Styles and Analysis 1 (MUSC11411) examines a range of genres, historical contexts, and stylistic approaches, giving you the skills to critically engage with different types of music. Principal Music Studios 1 (MUSC11409) focuses on developing your individual performance skills in your chosen area, such as instrumental, vocal, or composition, while Production Fundamentals 1 (PERF11026) introduces you to the basic techniques of music production, including the use of technology in modern music-making.In the second half of the program, Language of Modern Music 2 (MUSC11406) and Music Styles and Analysis 2 (MUSC11412) allow you to advance your theoretical knowledge and analytical abilities, enabling you to apply more complex concepts across various styles of music. Principal Music Studios 2 (MUSC11410) further enhances your technical performance abilities and artistic expression through specialist training and guided practice. At the same time, Production Fundamentals 2 (PERF11027) builds on the earlier production unit, giving you more advanced skills in recording, mixing, and creating music using digital tools.Together, these units combine theoretical learning, practical performance, and technical production training to prepare you with a strong and versatile skill set. By completing the diploma, you will graduate with the essential knowledge and practical experience needed to begin a career in music or continue your studies, with the option to articulate directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Music.
