Course Curriculum

In the first semester of the program, students will develop a strong and detailed understanding of key criminological concepts, with a focus on crime analysis, justice interventions, and pressing global issues such as genocide and transnational crime. These topics provide a critical foundation for understanding the complexities of criminal behavior and justice systems on a global scale. To support this learning, students will also undertake a core subject in research and data analytics, which equips them with essential skills in evidence-based inquiry and analytical methods. This foundation is designed to prepare students for the more advanced academic and research components in subsequent semesters.During the second semester, students will deepen their criminological knowledge through further coursework while beginning to shape their academic focus through a chosen research pathway. Depending on their selected research option, students may commence work on a supervised research project tailored to their individual interests. This provides an opportunity to explore a specialised area of criminology in depth. Alternatively, students selecting Option 2 will undertake general electives from a wide array of postgraduate subjects offered across the University, allowing for interdisciplinary learning and broader academic engagement.In the third and final semester, students will complete their research project under the guidance of experienced academic supervisors who bring extensive scholarly and industry expertise. This phase of the program is designed to encourage critical thinking, independent inquiry, and the development of advanced research skills. Students who have chosen Option 2 will continue with elective subjects, drawing from the University’s broad postgraduate offerings to further personalise their study experience. By the end of the program, graduates will have gained a comprehensive understanding of criminology, enriched by research or interdisciplinary coursework, and will be well-prepared for professional or academic pathways in the field.
