Course Curriculum

The architecture program is structured to provide a comprehensive and future-oriented education over four semesters, with a strong emphasis on design innovation, digital technologies, and research development. In the first semester, students participate in an intensive Design Charrette, an immersive workshop that fosters collaboration and creative thinking. This initiative is guided by a prominent guest architect and focuses on designing a piece of local public infrastructure. Alongside this, students undertake their first design studio subject, where foundational architectural skills are developed, and a digital design theory subject that explores contemporary design technologies. A general elective from the wider University offerings allows students to broaden their knowledge and pursue areas of personal interest.In semesters two and three, the focus shifts to the integration of digital transformation within architecture. Students explore how emerging technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality are shaping design processes and the built environment. These semesters include further advanced design studios that challenge students to apply these tools in complex design scenarios. Additionally, students complete a second general elective and begin developing their design thesis research. This research component encourages deep inquiry and original thinking, contributing to a portfolio that meets the academic standards often required for entry into doctoral programs or higher research degrees.The final semester is dedicated to the completion of the research project and the development of professional skills. Students synthesize their learning through a capstone research project that demonstrates their ability to address architectural questions critically and creatively. Complementing this, future-focussed architectural practice subjects prepare students for the evolving demands of the professional world. These subjects emphasize adaptability, innovation, and ethical responsibility, ensuring graduates are equipped to navigate and contribute meaningfully to the dynamic field of architecture. The program as a whole is designed to cultivate well-rounded, forward-thinking architects ready for both practice and further academic pursuit.
