The Master of Teaching (Secondary) (MTch (Sec)) includes a structured set of units that equip pre-service teachers with the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions required to teach effectively in secondary school contexts. These units cover a wide range of educational topics designed to prepare students for the diverse and complex realities of classroom practice while also shaping their professional identity as reflective and ethical educators.The program emphasizes both student wellbeing and the broader social responsibilities of teachers. Units such as Promoting Health & Wellbeing in Schools and Understanding Students with Special Education Needs prepare future teachers to address the varied needs of learners, ensuring inclusivity and support for all students. Exploring Child Development & Learning further deepens understanding of how young people grow and learn, providing a strong theoretical base for classroom strategies. At the same time, units like Exploring Indigenous Education and Exploring Educational Research & Diversity highlight the importance of cultural awareness, diversity, and evidence-based practice, fostering the capacity to teach responsibly in multicultural and rapidly changing environments.Professional formation is also central to the MTch (Sec). Preparation for the Teaching Workplace and Exploring a Personal Philosophy of Christian Education help students to reflect critically on their values, motivations, and role as educators, particularly within faith-based and values-driven school contexts. Core professional practice units such as Managing the Secondary Classroom, Quality Learning, Assessment & ICT in the Australian Curriculum, and Introduction to Quality Teaching provide practical frameworks for effective pedagogy, classroom management, and assessment, ensuring readiness to meet curriculum demands.The Professional Experiences unit ties these strands together by offering 60 days of supervised teaching in real school settings. These placements provide opportunities for students to apply theory, gain practical skills, and build confidence as emerging teachers. Collectively, these units prepare graduates to thrive as competent, adaptable, and reflective educators in secondary schools across Australia and internationally.
