The Diploma of Business is structured around eight units, each valued at six credit points, for a total of 48 credit points required for completion. The program is designed to be completed over two semesters, with students undertaking four units per semester. In Semester 1, the course begins with Foundations of Wellbeing, which supports personal and professional development within the business context, followed by Organisations in a Business Context, which introduces students to the structures, functions, and operations of businesses. Students also complete Introduction to Accounting, providing a strong grounding in financial concepts and practices, and Information Technology Systems in Business, which explores the role of IT in supporting and advancing business activities. These units combine to give students a well-rounded start, focusing on both personal skills and essential business foundations. In Semester 2, the program builds on this foundation by developing more specialised knowledge. Students undertake Introduction to Economics, where they explore how markets operate and how economic principles affect decision-making within organisations. Business Statistics provides skills in data analysis and interpretation, equipping students to make informed, evidence-based decisions. Business Law introduces the legal frameworks and principles that underpin business practice, ensuring students understand regulatory environments and compliance issues. To complete the semester, students select one unit from three options: Financial Accounting and Reporting, which develops advanced accounting skills; Consumer Behaviour, which provides insight into customer decision-making and marketing strategies; or Organisational Behaviour, which focuses on workplace dynamics, leadership, and management practices. This structure ensures that all students gain broad knowledge across core areas of business, while also allowing them to tailor part of their program according to career interests or academic goals. Together, the eight units provide both theoretical grounding and practical skills, preparing graduates for entry-level professional roles or further study, including direct entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Business program at Avondale.
