The Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching (BSc/BTch) program follows a structured four-year sequence that combines discipline-specific study in science and mathematics with core education units and professional teaching experiences. Students complete discipline units each semester alongside foundational and pedagogical courses that prepare them for the secondary classroom. In the first year, students focus on building a strong foundation in both their chosen science discipline and the fundamentals of education. Units include Foundations of Wellbeing, Developing Core Competencies, Child Development and Learning, and Exploring a Christian Worldview. These are paired with discipline-specific science units, giving students both academic depth and insight into human development and learning. The second year introduces students to more targeted teacher training through units such as Introduction to Teaching and Learning, Assessment and ICT in the Australian Curriculum. This year also includes the first professional teaching placement (15 days), allowing students to gain initial classroom experience. Students also begin curriculum and pedagogical studies aligned with their teaching areas. In the third year, students progress to more advanced teacher preparation. Units such as Indigenous Education and Managing the Secondary Classroom equip them to address diverse student needs and foster inclusive learning environments. Professional placements continue, including a 10-day placement in February and a 15-day placement in July. Students also complete advanced curriculum and pedagogy units, focusing on senior secondary levels. The final year emphasizes professional readiness and leadership. Students undertake units such as Promoting Health and Wellbeing in Schools, Students with Special Education Needs, Educational Research and Diversity, and Exploring a Philosophy of Christian Education. The capstone professional experience placement is the most extensive, consisting of a 40-day block, which fully immerses students in the teaching profession.Overall, the course provides a comprehensive mix of discipline knowledge, teaching methodology, and practical training, ensuring graduates are confident, capable, and classroom-ready secondary educators.
