Course Curriculum

The Diploma of Counselling Skills is a foundational program designed for individuals seeking to develop practical skills and theoretical understanding in the field of counselling. Tailored for those interested in working within the community services or health sectors, this diploma equips students with essential communication and support techniques needed to provide effective counselling assistance in a variety of settings. It serves as an ideal entry point into the counselling profession or a stepping stone for further study in related disciplines.The course consists of eight core units at level 100 and can be completed in one year of full-time study or up to three years part-time, offering flexibility for different learning needs. Students explore a diverse range of subjects that build professional capability and personal insight. Core units include Professional Reflection and Self-Care, Mental Health and Wellness, Professions and Society, Counselling Skills Training 1, Applications in Context, and Personal, Professional and Global Sustainability. Students also study Counselling Theory and Trauma-Informed Counselling Practice 1, giving them an introduction to key models and practices used in supporting individuals experiencing distress or trauma.Throughout the course, students develop an understanding of ethical and legal frameworks in counselling, along with strategies for maintaining personal well-being and reflective practice. Emphasis is placed on mental health awareness, cultural sensitivity, and the development of supportive relationships in community settings. The diploma is accredited by the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP) under its self-accrediting authority, ensuring its educational quality and relevance to industry needs.Please note that this course is not available to international students for on-campus study in Perth, Byron Bay, Brisbane, or Adelaide. Domestic students in these regions are eligible to enrol.
