ACAP’s Bachelor of Social Work is a comprehensive four-year degree designed for those committed to social justice, community wellbeing, and advocating for individuals facing disadvantage. Accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), the program meets the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) and serves as an entry qualification into the professional social work field in Australia. This course blends theoretical learning with extensive hands-on experience, preparing graduates for a meaningful career across a range of sectors, including mental health, youth and family services, migrant and refugee support, and justice systems. The course consists of 28 units delivered across levels 100 to 400, with options to study full-time over four years or part-time over up to eight years. In the early stages (level 100), students are introduced to foundational topics such as human services, social work theories, psychology, and professional practice. Level 200 deepens this understanding with units like Critical Social Work Theories, Lifespan Development, and Social Work with Individuals, Children and Families. The first field education placement also occurs at this stage, offering students their initial real-world experience.Level 300 broadens the focus to include group and community work, social media and advocacy, ageing and disability services, and policy influence. Students also explore interpersonal and structural violence, further preparing them to work in complex, real-life situations. By level 400, students engage with advanced topics such as ethical practice with First Nations people and complete their second field education placement, contributing to a total of 1,000 hours of supervised practical experience. With growing demand for qualified social workers in Australia, this degree equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to drive social change and support vulnerable communities effectively and ethically.
