Discover how each program is uniquely designed to inspire learning

The Master of Teaching (Primary) begins in Semester 1 of Year 1, where students complete foundational units in development, learning and curriculum across literacy, numeracy, and technologies, including EDES500, EDEN502, EDMA500, and EDTE500. Students specialising in Science or Humanities and Social Sciences take EDSI600 or EDSS600 in place of EDTE500, which they complete in the following year. A diagnostic literacy and numeracy task, LNTE110, is also required. In Semester 2, students undertake EDET501 with a 20-day professional experience placement, as well as curriculum units in early literacy, health and physical education, and the arts. During this semester, students must register with ACER and complete both LANTITE tests, LNTE100 and LNTE101, which are compulsory for initial teacher education students. In Year 2 Semester 1, students choose one specialist Effective Teaching 2 unit aligned with their selected teaching area and complete a further 15 days of professional experience. They also study EDES600 along with either EDSI600 or EDSS600 depending on their specialisation. Semester 2 of Year 2 focuses on advanced curriculum and teaching practice through units such as EDET691, EDES603, EDEN602, and EDMA602, further strengthening students’ capability to plan, teach, assess and lead learning in the primary classroom. Some units may have alternative offerings in different semesters depending on the year.
