Course Curriculum

Commencing in Semester 1 as a full-time student, the Master of Professional Psychology program is completed over one year and is structured across two semesters. In Year 1, Semester 1, students undertake four specified units that build the foundation for professional training. These units include PSYC621 Professional Practice in Psychology (10 cp), which introduces key professional frameworks and ethical standards; PSYC630 Psychological Assessment (10 cp), focusing on the principles and application of psychological testing; PSYC638 Therapeutic Skills (10 cp), which develops core counselling and intervention abilities; and PSYC622 Practicum Skills (10 cp), designed to prepare students for supervised practice through simulated training experiences. In Year 1, Semester 2, learning progresses into more advanced and applied areas. Students complete PSYC623 Psychopathology (10 cp), which requires prior completion of PSYC621 and PSYC630 and develops knowledge of mental health conditions and diagnostic processes. They also study PSYC624 Evidence Based Practice for Psychologists (10 cp), which emphasises research-informed decision making, and PSYC627 Contemporary Psychotherapy Practice (10 cp), an advanced therapeutic unit that builds on earlier skills and requires PSYC621, PSYC622, PSYC630, and PSYC638 as prerequisites. Alongside coursework, students complete PSYC625 Professional Placement (10 cp), which provides real-world supervised experience essential for progressing toward the 5 + 1 pathway. All units are delivered in campus attendance mode unless otherwise specified in the course map.
