Course Curriculum

The Diploma in Nutrition Science at ACU is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles of human health, nutrition, and health promotion. This one-year program equips students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to understand how nutrition impacts individual and community well-being, preparing them for further study in the Bachelor of Nutrition Science or other health science degrees. In the first semester, students undertake core units such as Human Biology 1, Foundations of Health Promotion, Introduction to Nutrition, and Academic Literacy in Health Sciences, which together develop an understanding of the human body, the role of nutrition in health, and the academic skills necessary for success in tertiary study. In the second semester, students build on this knowledge through Human Biology 2, Essential Ideas in Chemistry, Culinary Nutrition Science, and Communicating Ideas in Science, which further enhances their understanding of biological and chemical principles, nutrition science applications in food preparation, and effective scientific communication. The diploma is particularly suited to domestic students, as it provides a Commonwealth supported place (CSP-funded), making higher education more accessible. Small class sizes and tailored support ensure students can transition smoothly into university life, with guidance available for both recent school leavers and those returning to study after a break. Graduates of the Diploma in Nutrition Science gain the foundational skills, confidence, and academic preparation necessary to articulate into the second year of the Bachelor of Nutrition Science or other related health science programs. By combining theoretical knowledge, practical applications, and personalized support, the diploma provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of nutrition, enabling students to take the first step toward a meaningful career dedicated to improving health, promoting well-being, and making a positive impact on communities locally and globally.
