The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy program is structured to provide a comprehensive and progressive curriculum that develops both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across the profession. The course is organised into three parts: Core Curriculum Units, Specified Units, and Professional Practice Units, with students completing a total of 350 credit points. Part A, the Core Curriculum, requires students to complete 20 credit points from a selection of units that focus on human understanding, ethics, reasoning, spirituality, and social responsibility. These units include studies in areas such as Being Human, Ethics and the Good Life, Practical Reasoning, Catholic Social Thought, Indigenous Spiritualities, Ecology and Justice, and Conflict and Peace-making, fostering critical thinking and a reflective approach to personal and professional development. Part B, the Specified Units, constitutes the majority of the program, with students completing 250 credit points across foundational and advanced occupational therapy studies. This includes units on human biological science, health and occupation, musculoskeletal and neurological function, evidence-based practice, physical and mental health rehabilitation, vocational preparation, therapeutic communication, and community-centred practice. These units progressively build clinical competence and prepare students to address diverse client needs across the lifespan. Part C, Professional Practice Units, requires 50 credit points and immerses students in structured professional placements, allowing them to apply theory in real-world settings, develop clinical reasoning, and refine communication and leadership skills. Units such as Professional Practice Education 1 through 4 provide extensive hands-on experience, ensuring students are work-ready and capable of safe, effective, and ethical practice. Overall, the program’s structured approach integrates liberal studies, professional knowledge, and practical experience, equipping graduates with the expertise, critical thinking, and professional competencies necessary to contribute meaningfully to individual and community health and wellbeing as occupational therapists.
