The one-year Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) at ACU is an intensive, research-focused program designed for high-achieving graduates who have already completed a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent qualification. This program provides students with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of nursing and healthcare, while developing advanced research skills under the guidance of experienced academic supervisors. The course is structured around a combination of coursework and an independent honours thesis, providing a comprehensive foundation in research methodologies, data analysis, and scholarly communication. In the first term, students engage with units on research methods in biomedical and health sciences and choose between qualitative research methods or statistics, equipping them with the essential skills for conducting rigorous health research. The second term focuses on communicating research effectively in biomedical and health sciences, while simultaneously beginning the honours thesis (Part A), allowing students to apply their research knowledge in a practical, supervised project. The honours thesis continues across the third and fourth terms as Part B, integrating coursework learning with intensive research and analysis. Throughout the program, students benefit from a multi-mode delivery model, including online scheduled sessions and supervised research activities, providing flexibility while maintaining a high level of academic rigor. The thesis is assessed in line with faculty policies, emphasizing methodological soundness, critical thinking, and contribution to the field of nursing. While this honours program enhances research expertise and prepares graduates for higher degree study, it does not confer eligibility for nurse registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Graduates will be equipped for roles in clinical research, healthcare policy, education, and leadership, with the honours experience fostering independent inquiry, professional growth, and a capacity to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of nursing knowledge and practice.
