Course Curriculum

Commencing in ACU Term 1 as a full-time, one-year program, the honours degree begins with two coursework units in Term 1. Students complete HLSC406, Research Methods in Biomedical and Health Sciences Research, delivered in an online scheduled format for 10 credit points. They then choose between HLSC408, Qualitative Research Methods in Health Science, or HLSC409, Statistics for Biomedical and Health Sciences Research. Both of these 10 credit point units are also delivered online.In Term 2, students undertake another 10 credit point coursework unit, HLSC407, Communicating Research in Biomedical and Health Sciences, which is delivered online. Alongside this, they begin their thesis work through EXSC407, Honours Thesis Part A, a 10 credit point unit offered in multi-mode. This unit prepares students for the major research project that forms the core of the honours year.During Term 3, students progress to EXSC408, Honours Thesis Part B, a substantial 40 credit point unit completed across two ACU terms. This unit requires successful completion of EXSC407 and continues the development, execution and writing of the independent research project under supervision. Term 4 represents the continuation and completion of EXSC408, allowing students to finalise data analysis, write their thesis and prepare their research for submission.Across the four terms, students complete a total of 80 credit points through a combination of advanced coursework and an extended research thesis, ensuring strong preparation for future research, postgraduate study or professional roles requiring analytical and investigative expertise.
