Course Curriculum

The Exercise Science program provides a structured and comprehensive pathway beginning in Semester 1, with specific requirements depending on whether students have previously completed EXSC223 Sport, Exercise and Health in Action: Engaging with Community before 2025. Those who have completed it are not required to enrol in EXSC206 Professional Experience Preparation, while those who have not must complete EXSC206, a zero-credit unit designed to prepare students for professional practice, accreditation requirements and readiness for placements through online modules. In the first year, students study foundational units such as Growth, Motor Development and Ageing, Psychology of Sport, Exercise and Sport Science: Starting the Journey and Anatomical Foundations of Exercise Science, followed in Semester 2 by Human Biology 1, Research and Ethics in Exercise Science, Introduction to Nutrition and the first Core Curriculum unit. The second year further develops scientific knowledge through Mechanical Bases of Exercise, Functional Anatomy, Sport, Exercise and Health in Action, and Physiological Bases of Exercise in Semester 1, then Health and Exercise Psychology, Exercise Prescription and Delivery, Resistance Training and Motor Control and Learning in Semester 2, along with EXSC206 if required. The third year focuses strongly on professional experience and advanced application, beginning with a 20-credit placement unit supported by Exercise Prescription for Health and Wellbeing and Biomechanics. In the final semester, students complete the second Core Curriculum unit, a physiology unit on adaptation to exercise and environmental stress, and two electives that allow them to tailor their study interests. Overall, this structured progression ensures students gain theoretical knowledge, applied skills and professional readiness across all three years of study, preparing them for future roles in exercise and sport science, health promotion or further specialised training.
