The Bachelor of Applied Public Health (Honours) at ACU is a one-year, full-time program designed for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree and wish to deepen their knowledge and research expertise in public health. The program combines advanced coursework with a substantial research component, allowing students to develop critical skills in research design, data analysis, and scientific communication, all within the context of applied public health practice. Through this honours pathway, students gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to investigate complex public health issues and contribute to evidence-based solutions that can improve population health outcomes. In the first ACU Term, students undertake coursework in research methods in biomedical and health sciences, with a choice between qualitative research methods or statistics for biomedical and health sciences research. This foundational knowledge equips students to critically evaluate scientific literature, design robust research projects, and apply appropriate analytical techniques. In Term 2, students focus on communicating research effectively, developing the skills needed to present complex findings to academic, professional, and community audiences. The core of the honours experience lies in the thesis component, which spans Terms 2 to 4. In Honours Thesis Part A, students work under the guidance of academic supervisors to plan and begin an independent research project, while Honours Thesis Part B involves conducting the research, analyzing results, and presenting findings in a comprehensive thesis. This component requires campus attendance and is completed over two ACU terms, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in research methodology and project management within a public health context.Graduates of this program emerge with specialized knowledge in a particular area of public health, enhanced research and analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within research teams. The honours degree provides a strong foundation for further postgraduate study, professional research roles, or leadership positions in public health practice and policy, equipping students to make a meaningful impact on community and population health.
